News: Flower Power: Paige Dixon Digs into History of Flowers at Las Vegas Design Center’s First Friday Seminar

Wynn and Encore in Las Vegas are home to some of the most beautiful flowers and floral arrangements in the world, and that’s thanks, in part, to Paige Dixon. Dixon was the floral director at Wynn for six years, and now serves as their exclusive design consultant while also managing her own company, Paige Dixon Designs. She’ll discuss the history of flowers and the secrets of floral design at Las Vegas Design Center at World Market Center Las Vegas Friday, May 7 at 10 a.m., as part of the First Friday design series.

“We use flowers on an every day basis but we don’t really know the healing power of them and their history,” says Dixon. In fact, she says one of the best things about her job is that it fulfills her creatively while also enveloping her in the mystic side of flowers. “It tends to be soothing because of the element that you’re working with,” she says.

Topics she’ll discuss include during the First Friday presentation include the following:

· The healing power of flowers

· The origins of floral design

· The history of flowers

· Disproving floral myths. For example, tulips are originally from Turkey, not Holland.

Whether she’s in China working on multiple 40-foot-long floral dragons or studying French and English fashion magazines to inspire her flower choices (Dixon looks for color trends and what’s hot to get ideas) she says that her driving forces are creativity and passion. At the heart of it all, she’s an artist. “Flowers are just another medium, in an artistic sense,” she says.

First Friday at Las Vegas Design Center is a unique, not-to-be missed shopping day for local and out-of-market design professionals. The monthly event features educational opportunities, showroom specials, hospitality and other exclusive offerings for the trade.
